Wooster community gets branch library

Ramsey's Decision - ^ * Wooster Community Gets Branch Library Wooster will get a branch li¬ brary, operated by the Harris County Public Library Depart¬ ment, even though the area has been annexed by the City of Bay- town. This was the decision of Harris County Commissioners Court, which approved funds to pay the rent and utilities of the library branch during 1963. Commissioner V. V. (Red) Ram¬ sey said $1,100 has been included in the county budget for opera¬ tion of the Wooster branch. Plans for the branch library have been underway several months. The Wooster Chamber of Commerce rented a small build¬ ing in the 6000 block of Bayway Drive and has helped finance necessary alterations. When Baytown annexed the Wooster area, it was feared by some library backers that the county would not approve funds to operate a branch library with¬ in a city which was about to open a new municipal library. Mrs. Mary Owensby, county li¬ brarian, said Friday the present Baytown Public Library next to Citizens National Bank will re¬ main open for two weeks after the Feb. 24 formal opening of the new Sterling Municipal Library. During the two-week period, books will be received by the library but none will be checked out, she said. After the two-week peri¬ od, the library books owned by the county will be moved to the i Wooster branch. ' Mrs. Owensby and Hank Bla- sick, city librarian, met Wednes¬ day to decide ownership of books in the present public library. Bla- sick said he was satisfied with the division of books and felt Mrs. Owensby had been very co¬ operative. Mrs. С. T.
