Serving Library Is
One of Many Jobs
Mrs. John Hubbard of 1928
Roxella is a clock watcher
and probably no one in the
city has a better right to be
one!
Mrs. Hubbard is the newly
appointed librarian at North
Houston Memorial Library.
8705 Irvington.
But Mrs. Hubbard is also a
wife, and the mother of six
energetic youngsters.
So with a home to keep,
children and a husband to
feed and care for and an ever¬
growing library to keep run¬
ning smoothly — it’s no won¬
der she eyes the clock.
Hubbard is a member of
the staff at the Central Post
Office. 701 San Jacinto, and
Mrs. Hubbard takes him to
work each day'at 7 a.m.
Of course, her day starts
several hours prior to that as
she must get up and prepare
breakfast for her brood, and
pack several lunches for her
school children.
As Mrs. Hubbard takes her
husband to work, she drops
14-year-old Virginia at a bus
stop where she embarks for
classes at Burbank Junior
High School, 315 Berry Rd.
Back home, about 7:30 a.m.,
Mrs. Hubbard takes over the
baby sitting with sons, Ste¬
phen, 2, and Roger, 3%, while
15-year-old daughter, Karen,
heads for Sam Houston High
School, 9400 Irvington.
There is a spare minute or
two to bundle Stephen and
Roger in the car so they can
“ride” as she takes Michael,
9, and Lola, 7, to Coop School,
10130 Westfield Rd.
Back home again there are
! only two children to keep oc¬
cupied while she whirls
through straightening the
| house and washing and hang¬
ing out clothes — and a million
other household chores.
The time flies for there is
sewing to do and errands to
run — then it is time to rush
off to the library, while Lola,
in from school at 2:30 p.m.,
watches the babies.
The library is open from 3
to 7 p.m. Monday through
Friday and from 10 a.m. t*
2 p.m. Saturdays.
The older girls take ever
baby sitting and prepare sup¬
per by 5 p.m. when Hubbard
comes in from work.
The younger children eat
but the older ones frequently
“wait for mommy,” who usur
ally eats about 7:30 p.m.
Sunday is no day to sleep.
Mrs. Hubbard is up with the
birds to get her children
ready for church. The family
attend Assumption Catholic
Church, 901 Rose Lane.
For recreation the family
likes to read and play games,
take long walks or ride in the
car.
Karen is the artist in the
family and is taking a course
at the Museum of Fine Arts,
5700 Main. She won a schol¬
arship course last year while
at Burbank Junior High
School.
Virginia is musically in¬
clined and longs for a piano
so she can take lessons. She
also likes to sing.
Michael is always “making
things” — his latest model of
a rocket ship, however, final¬
ly came to rest on the rubbish
heap, Mrs. Hubbard said.
Lola loves to make up little
songs and dances and is a
mimic — perhaps an actress in
the bud, her mother thinks.
Stephen and Roger share
their time between pets and
a fascination with wheels —
any nice rolling, squeaky
wheels.
