All electrical wiring should be checked, missing covers replaced, and certification should be given by a licensed and bonded electrician that the building meets the National Electric Code for Commercial Buildings . 7. The unvented space heater should be replaced with an approved heating system. 8. There should be at least one five (5) pound multi¬ purpose dry chemical fire extinguisher properly inspected and mounted where it would be readily accessible. At present there is no fire extinguisher of any kind within the building. 9. The doors to the storage room and restroom should be properly labeled or provided with a sign on each indicating "Not an Exit." The County Engineer's office also inspected this building and found it to be structurally unsound. The County does not own this building. The materials and labor to build it were donated and it sits on land donated by HISD. Because the building is not owned by the County, the Library cannot spend any County funds to make necessary repairs in order to bring it into compliance with the fire codes. In its present condition this building presents a very real fire danger and a hazard to persons who use it. Because of our inability to correct this danger I have recommended that library services be discontinued at the Savannah Collier Branch and that services to this community be provided through the County bookmobile. The bookmobile will begin stopping at the current library location, 5535 Triway, on June 14, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. -30-
