front steps it was decided to change the steps to a ramp and that was an ongoing
project for several months. In spite of these problems the staff and patrons
are very pleased with this building. It is attractive and well planned and a
pleasure to work in. We are all very proud of it.
A small amount of rearranging of the interior has been done. After
attending a workshop on "Marketing Your Libraryā€¯ Shirley Ada adopted some of the
ideas. Some periodical slanted shelving was moved to display books, and a paperback
rack filled with adult non-fiction paperbacks was moved to a position next to the
copier. In addition, Jackie Davis and Shirley Ada created a special career section
which has been well used.
On October 11 when Rick Velasquez reached the library at 6 AM he discovered
the building had been robbed. A number of items were taken which made it appear
someone was trying to furnish their home. We sincerely hope this was an isolated
incident .
In conclusion, this was our first full year of operation and it has been a
unique exciting time. We have had growing pains but have expanded rapidly and
found our place in the community. There will never be another year like 1985
for the Northwest Branch.
