County Engineer (713)755-5370 December 3, 1992 Honorable County Judge & Commissioners' Court Building Attention: Commissioner Steve Radack Reference: Bear Creek Branch Library, Tornado Damage, Precinct 3 Gentlemen : On Saturday, November 21, 1992, the Bear Creek Branch Library sustained extensive tornado damage. Attached please find a letter from Catherine S. Park, County Librarian, requesting Court authorization to perform emergency roof repairs in order to avoid further building deterioration. The estimated cost of these interim roof repairs is $45,000.00. Additionally, permanent repairs to the building roof, mechanical system, electrical system, and interior finishes should be performed on an expedited basis, so that the library can re-open as soon as possible. These repairs will be competitively bid; are estimated to cost approximately $250,000.00; and will take approximately 6 to 8 months to complete. Therefore, I request that you declare the tornado damaged Bear Creek Branch Library a public calamity and authorize me to proceed with emergency repairs to preserve the property of the County.
