JERRY EVERSOLE, COMMISSIONER MEMORANDUM TO: Cathy Ensign Director, Harris County Public Library FROM: Jerry Eversole У, Commissioner, Precinct Four X DATE: April 13, 1999 ) SUBJECT: Harris County Bookmobile Program Over the past month, you have distributed information on the current status of the county’s bookmobiles. In your March 4th correspondence, you enclosed information on two options regarding bookmobile service. The options were 1) retain one bookmobile in service and 2) ending bookmobile service. Subsequently in correspondence dated March 22nd, you enclosed a draft letter to Commissioner’s Court members requesting authorization to eliminate the bookmobile program. I am in favor of retaining the bookmobile program. Please review my recommendations relating to the continuance of the bookmobile program and respond to me in writing your thoughts regarding these recommendations. ■ Pursue the needed repairs to one bookmobile. Information indicates that one bookmobile has been inspected and rendered safe for use for several more years if necessary repairs of approximately $8200 are completed. In addition, our precinct paint shop could paint the bookmobile so as to visually gain renewed public interest. The goal will be to have the bookmobile “on the road” for the summer. ■ Reassessment of the locations the bookmobile program stops. To assist with the assessment attached is a map that was developed by the Harris County Community Development Agency per our request. The map designates Harris County low and moderate income areas, the locations of the branch libraries and the current bookmobile stops.
