Kingwood Library History Scrapbook, 1990-1993

Library Celebrating its 8th year of service to the community, the Kingwood Branch Library is one of the busiest in the Harris County Public Library system. Over two-thirds of King- wood residents have library cards, which is far above the national average. The library is located at 4102 Rustic Woods Drive, on the comer of Lake Houston Parkway and Rustic Woods Drive, next to the Metro Park and Ride lot, in the King's don will make you a member of POLK and a true friend of the Kingwood Library. In addition to books, the library also has VHS video cassettes available for free three- day check out. These include children’s Kims, general entertainment Kims, and how-to tapes. There is an even wider selection of book cassettes, perfect for those long com¬ mutes. On audio cassette, the library has best sellers, mysteries, science fiction, self-help, classics, business, health, foreign languages, study guides. There is also a broad selection of over 200 magazines with back issues in either paper or microKche. On microfiche, the library also has phone Crossing area of Kingwood. A wide range of services are available in the 12,000-square- foot building. Children's services play an important role at Kingwood, where two story times are held weekly for preschool children (ages 3-5) on Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Over 900 children participated in Camp Wanna- Read, the summer reading program. Special programs for children are held throughout the year. During the past year, there have been puppet shows, holiday and seasonal craft programs, animals, bike rodeos, theatrical programs, movies and more. Always involved in education, the li¬ brarians will respond eagerly to any infor¬ mation from teachers on upcoming school as¬ signments. Business information is an ever-growing part of the library's collection. Currently these include Moody's, Value Line, Wiesen- berger Investment, Texas Directory of Manu¬ facturers, Dun and Bradstrect, Harris County Business Guide, Zweig Forecast, Texas Di¬ rectory of Wholesalers, Thomas Register, as well as many other directories. New ones are added as funds allow. The library, which presently has a collec¬ tion of over 61,000 books and 14,000 non¬ book items, benefits greatly from the exten¬ sive community fund raising activities, con¬ ducted chieKy under the umbrella of the Friends of the Library Kingwood (FOLK).
