County Will
Expand Service
Of Bookmobile
The Harris County Library’s
Bookmobile, carrying 2000 vol¬
umes of pleasure and knowledge,
is currently embarked on an ex¬
pansion program to lake its serv¬
ice to residents of outlying county
areas.
Mrs. Mary Butler, county li¬
brarian said Monday the Book¬
mobile currently makes 43 slops
on its regular run, compared to
32 stops last year.
So far this year, 65,000 books
have been checked out of the
service by county readers, com¬
pared to 96,000 last year.
"Wc hope, by the end of the
year; to reach at least 100,000,” 1
she said.
The Bookmobile, under the su- |
pervision of Mrs. Jane Chapman,
carries library service to areas
where there is no county library-
branch nearby.
‘‘At present, we do not serve
northern Harris County around
Hockley, but we want to give the
residents there service if they de¬
sire it,” she said.
She explained tnar. five or more
residents of the area can apply;
for service by telephoning the
county library at Preston 2533.
Schools in the county may also
apply for the traveling library
service, she said. The unit makes
its rounds every two to three*
weeks.
The county also operates 13
library substations in larger
county communities where books
can be obtained. Mrs. Butler
