V’ Afe. ■MW W.W: Ж *'*' \ 4 II III 'Ш Clauder Secures Ranch-iype Home For Area's Books Commissioner Ed Clauder of Precinct 3 turned over to the North Houston Library Society this week the new ranch-style house to be used as a library building by the people of the Lindale and Humble Road com- cunities. At present located in the 200 block of Linder Street, the house is one of those condemned by the County to make way for a north- side East-West highway, and will be transferred to the library site on Irvington a block north of Berry “as soon as it can be ar¬ ranged,” Mr. Clauder said. , Boasting hardwood floors, a 'real fireplace, *■ Venetian blinds, [and large, spacious rooms, the home has been described as “the ideal building for a small library.” In delivering the building to the Society, Commissioner Clauder said, “It gives me real pleasure to take part in this most worthy en¬ terprise. A library is a great thing for the community, and I hope to continue to help out with its prog¬ ress.” Mr. Clauder said he was grate¬ ful for the help of the other coun¬ ty commissioners in securing the building. Precinct 3 is the only precinct which has been given a free branch of the county library. Other personalities connected with the evolution of the new library are R. W. Holtz, president of Home-Owned Properties: Alex Moody, Library Society president, Tabor Stone, attorney for the Society, Mrs. C. R. Gibson, Mrs. Hazel Barron, Mrs. W. H. Alex Moody guided the Society through its formation up to the present, Mr. Stone has handled legal matters pertaining to the library, the three ladies mention¬ ed and others have given very freely of their time and energies in the organization of the Society and in conducting of its campaign. Cash donations of $100 or more have come from Glenn H. Mc¬ Carthy for The Citizen, Leopold L. Meyer for the White House stores, and Frank Gibler for the Northside Taxpayers Protective League. Alan Meyer, news editor for The Citizen, has been named dele¬ gate from the North Houston Li¬ brary Society to a library con¬ vention to take place in Austin jApril 1, 2, and 3. Mr. Meyer is a member of the Society’s advisory "Any cash donations will be ac¬ knowledged by a sponsor’s card receipted by the person receiving the money. These cards are num¬ bered, and the donor will have his name on permanent file in the library. "Any checks mailed in or hand-i ed to the Library Society mem-’ bers will be acknowledged by their receipted sponsor’s card, which will be mailed to them, j “We desire to thank any group j of people who put on some public affair to assist in this drive. This ]is OUR library, and everyone in the community will benefit, and should be glad to help with books or money.” And still, with only 321 books- ; aud-bucks to go, the by-word is “KEEP ’EM COMING.” brought the total in The Citizen’s campaign up to 679, with only 321 books-and-bucks yet to go to fin¬ ish up the round thousand goal. In its separate campaign, the Northside Taxpayers Protective League raised $125 from its near¬ ly 1500 members, which Mrs. Vel¬ ma Bland and Mrs Conchita Gib¬ ler presented to Alex Moody, president of the Society. Frank Gibler, League treasurer, said al¬ so that his members had gathered “about 200 books,” which he would bring in and store in The Qitizen office with the books which the paper has collected. The collection presented by Mrs. Jenson consisted of four complete years of Machinery, a book issued monthly and which is too big, heavy and beautiful to —be called a magazine. Mrs. Jensen said, “These have been accumu¬ lated by my husband, but he doesn’t use them often, and I’m sure some youngsters will be able to get a lot out of them, as they have lots of information about machines and that sort of thing.” Information concerning the Lib¬ rary or the drives to raise books and money to support it may be obtained from The Citizen M. 3- 7534, Mrs. Hazel Barron M. 3-2492 or Mrs. C.
