students, Mrs. Anne McCulloch,
the librarian, ansounced today.
One is a 12-volume Compton's

Bookmobile Aide
Mrs. Sophie McClere of Aldine
was appointed chauffeur and as¬
sistant on the bookmobile oper¬
ated by the county library by
Commissioners Court Friday upon
the request of County Librarian
Reba Anderson.
Mrs. McClere, the first woman
to drive the truck, replaces Curtis
Clark, who resigned to enter the
army air corps.
Pictured encyclopedia, 1941 edi¬
tion, with a 13th volume published
this year which is devoted to the
war.
The other is the 1942 volume of
Americana.

The branch will be open from
, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wed¬
nesdays and Fridays. A good se¬
lection of books has been provided

brary office, Mrs. Sanders said.
Residents of West University
Place wishing to donate books to
the 1943 victory book campaign
may leave them at the library. The
books donated will be delivered to
soldiers, sailors and marines by
the agency in charge of the work.

Victory Book campaign.
At campaign headquarters Thurs¬
day leaders of the drive gathered
around a substantially sealed box
that weighed about 50 pounds.
Delighted with what appeared to be
a fine contribution to the drive
Mrs. Malcolm Whitehead; chairman,
and Miss Julia Ideson, city librar¬
ian, opened the box.
It was full of newspapers. Noth-;
ing else.

Library Extends Loan
On All Books to 14 Days
Because gasoline rationing will
hamper patrons in getting to the
library, all books in the future
will be loaned on a 14-day basis,
Mrs. Anne McCulloch, librarian
of the Goose Creek library, an¬
nounced today.
Books that have been loaned for
7 days now will be loaned for 14
days and there will be a 14-day
renewal privilege, she said.' How¬
ever, to obtain the renewal it will
be necessary to visit the library.
Magazines also will be loaned for
14 days with the renewal privilege.
As many as six books can bo
borrowed on each card, three fic¬
tion and three non-fiction.
