Happenings - Page 6 Office Of THE MAYOR CITY OF SOUTH HOUSTON ‘DDhcreas: Texas is celebrating its Sesquicentennial in 1986; and WHEREAS: THERE IS A SPECIAL MYSTIQUE ABOUT OUR STATE HERITAGE WHICH ATTRACTS BOTH YOUNG AND OLD; AND WHEREAS: THIS INTRIGUING AND COLORFUL HISTORY IS BEST EXPLORED AND PRESERVED IN BOOKS; AND WHEREAS: MORE BOOKS HAVE BEEN WRITTEN ABOUT TEXAS THAN ANY OTHER STATE; AND WHEREAS: READING BOOKS BY AND ABOUT TEXAS IS A SIGNIFICANT WAY TO OBSERVE THE 150ТН BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION; NOW THEREFORE, Be it Resolved, that 1986 be proclaimed "READ-A-TEXAS-BOOK-A-MONTH" YEAR SPONSORED BY THE SOUTH HOUSTON BRANCH LIBRARY AND the Texas State Library and that all citizens read AT LEAST ONE TEXAS BOOK PER MONTH AS THEIR OWN personal Sesquicentennial observance; and BE It Further Proclaimed, that each citizen also EXPAND THE CELEBRATION BY DONATING AT LEAST ONE Texas book to their favorite library during the Sesquicentennial so that others may also participate, IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have ; HEREUNTO SET MY HAND AND caused the Seal of the Ctiy of South Houston, Texas, to BE AFFIXED THIS THE 21ST DAY of January, A.D., 1986, 4c tKLp Mayor, City of South Houston
