Galena Park Library history from 1948 to 1966

GALENA PARK Prior to 1948 only Bookmobile service provided for Galena Park area, A request for branch service from the local citizens came too late to be included in County budget, so the County agreed to provide only books with the city providing everything else. In the next year it became a Branch. In 1952 the Branch moved to the old City Hall. The city paid for moving and repairs. The building and facilities were provided by the city, who also paid utilities and supplemented the book collection. Until 1969 the city also supplemented the salaries of the librarian. In 1966 the Galena Park voters refused a library bond that would have paid for a new library building.
