HARRIS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY Galena Park Children’s Narrative 1988 June MONTH YEAR * * June programming showed promise of a great summer. Children started attending the Wednesday "Fun Daze" programming on June 1st when "Painting a Mural" was the featured, fun. SUMMER READING CLUB programs was June 8th. Over sixty children participated in 4 age catagories to see who pould blow the biggest bubble in the "Bubble Gum Blowing Contest, was little to no shade behind the library where contestants patiently waited to have their bubbles measured. Several children learned to blow The official start of IV There All enjoyed a good time bringing the library cool bubbles for the first time, to a chaotic state when children returned to the of the library II II * and the water cooler. All records were broken on the 15th when over 100 children swarmed into the library to participate in the "Father's Day Craft, made coupon books and boot-shaped cards trimmed with wallpaper. All were satisfied with the finished products. Few were bothered by the mass of busy children. The .22nd of June brought yet another surprise, attendance to craft programs dropping sharply after the overwhelming attendance the previous week. Yet, over sixty children attended the Sand Painting" program. Fears of disaster that so many children would bring with colored sand were quelled by the busy and somewhat efficient children. Staff also noticed less children milling about after the program. Parents are now aware of the situation and are prompt to pick up their children II Children Staff had envisioned II after the program. last program had an expected attendance drop, was announced as an outside program. Previous again confirmed when only thirty children participated in the outdoor program. Participants made instruments to blow bubbles from and were given small jars of 'bubbles, on "how to* blow really big bubbles, how to" blow that very first bubble. We are very lucky to have Erika Valasco with us this summer as part of the JTPA program. She has been an invaluable assistant during Children's programming. Storytime has been a great deal of fun for all involved. Attendance is holding at near 25 children and on-looking adults. Selections are chosen to entertain and involvechildren of all ages . The Juvenile collection has seen the addition of many new books this month; primarily I CAN READ, J Spanish, and paperbacks. Young patrons thrilled to be borrowing the brand new books! Though program days are rather overwhelming, other days are mild. Summer Reading Club sign-ups are not what would be expected by looking at program attendance statistics. Erika is enabling the staff to accomplish projects overlooked enjoying a fulfilling summer.
