Pub ic Branch Narrative Galena Park November 1992 m I. Month, Year Galena Park Library experienced a big move toward the future this month. Jimmie Robinson, Grant Writer for the City of Galena Park, and Peqgy toured South Houston Library and the new Pasadena Library on the 10th. The City plans to submit a HC-CDA qrant prioritizing the building of a new library in Galena Park. Jimmie showed Dale where the new facility would be built near the Community Center. The Friends group also got in on the enthusiasm as they planned and held their second Book Sale. It remained up for a week. They did not make as much as was hoped enthusiasm was not dampened however, as they planned the First Annual Christmas Open House to take place in the Branch on December 1st. The Friends decided to broaden the perspectives of the Open House and sent invitations to City officials, Chamber of Commerce members, and other Manager of Branches Dale Fleeger Their They asked the dignitaries associated with the Library, mayor to speak at their Board Meeting which would be held at the end of the event. Friends members also raised money through the donation of a Christmas Quilt by Doris Pryor. The drawing of the Quilt to be held during the Open House. The reference during November showed notable interest in history as the local schools prepared for "History Fair season. Children from elementary through middle school sought topics and materials with staff assistance. Staff remarked that there have not yet been the numerous "Alamo Elementary students are also it projects this year. researching countries. Overall circulation increases by .0375% over last November. Adult circulation was up .035% and Children's .0675% over last year. Video circulation increased by only .0175%. Staff commented that the Spanish video circulation appears to remain steady. Self-help educational videos have been circulating to HCDE students. Matthew attended a Reference workshop at Pasadena Public Library on the 6th of November. Peggy attended the graduation of the first Parenting classes at Woodforest Branch Library. The program was very impressive, involving both children and parents. Galena Park Branch will be presenting this program beginning in January of 1993.
