Although our book budgets seemed small this year circulating both at Galena Park and at other branches. On July 4, the site for the new Galena Park Branch Library on Keene Street was dedicated, followed by a family festival from which all proceeds went to the bank account for furnishing the new library. A Fiesta Dinner was sponsored by the Friends of Galena Park Library, which also raised a good deal of money for the new branch. Construction on the new facility was begun in August, and the weather cooperated beautifully. The building is now finished, carpeted, lighted, and painted. The City of Galena Park is waiting for bids on the furnishings, and once that is accepted, a move-in date will be set. It is hoped that the grand opening will be held mid¬ summer. Everyone in the community is very excited.
