Book Sale Successful
The Cypress Creek Fri¬
ends of the Library Book
Sale on Saturday was very
successful thanks to over¬
whelming community sup¬
port. About $425 was netted
for the benefit of the new
Harris County library branch
which will open this spring
in the FM 1960 area.
Co-chairman for the event,
Liz and Terry Jones wish to
thank everyone who donat¬
ed, sorted, priced, carted,
and sold books for the event
which will probably occur
annually in the FM 1960
area. 2,000 or more used
books were available at the
beginning of the sale thanks
to the generosity of donors.
Mr. Jones gives a special
thank you to Nancy Lapham,
President of the Merchants
Association in Champions
Village III where the sale
was held for her cooperation
and help; to the Serendipity
Book Store in Tomball which
donated 240 books; to the J
& H Liquor Store for
donating the boxes that were
much needed; and to the
Ponderosa Forest Club
Manager, Don Buehle for
donating tables.

Library Hours Trimmed
The hours during which
northwest area county
branch libraries are open
will be trimmed at least 14
per cent on June 1.
The open time of the
Tomball library will be
reduced from 54 hours a
week to 46 hours while the
hours of the Cypress Creek,
Fairbanks, and Spring
Branch libraries will be cut
from 54 to 44 hours.
The changes were
recommended by County
Librarian Katherine
Skinner Brown as
“necessary to allow
adequate staff coverage
during peak hours of use.”
She supplied the Com¬
missioners with circulation
statistics “to justify the
changes.”
The Court approved the
changes.
Effective June 1, the
hours for the Tomball
Library will be 10 am to 9
pm on Mondays, 10 to 6 on
Tuesdays and Fridays, noon
to 6 on Wednesdays and
Thursdays, and 10 to 5 on
Saturdays.
At Cypress Creek,
Fairbanks and Spring
Branch, the hours will be 1
to 9 pm on Mondays, 10 to 6
on Tuesdays, Wednesdays,
and Thursdays; 1 to 6 on
Fridays, and 10 to 5 on
Saturdays.
Garden
Club Gives
To Library
The new Cypress Creek
Library will receive over
$300 from the Ponderosa
Flora Doras Garden Club.
The group raised the money
from their annual luncheon
and card party benefit held
in March. This amount will
provide more than 32 books
on gardening, horticulture
and flowers for this area.
The Flora Doras April
meeting was a workshop on
making hanging baskets.
The next meeting will be
held on May 1 1 and will be a
luncheon and installation of
officers for the new garden
club year.
New officers will be:
Sandra Champion, presi¬
dent; Helen Swanson, 1st
vice president; Martha Bas-
kerville, 2nd vice president;
Evelyn Graham, secretary;
and Del Rutledge, treasurer.

Firm Wants
Library
Extension
A request by the con¬
struction firm building the
Cypress Creek Branch
Library for 110 days ex¬
tension of time in com¬
pleting his contract caused
a mild flurry at the County
Commissioners Court this
week.
, County Engineer Dick
Doss said the additional
time would not have any
effect on the $344,000 con¬
tract of Superior Con¬
structors, Inc.
When Commissioner Bob
Eckels inquired about the
exact problems that would
require such a delay, Doss
said the request came
through the architect and
that he did not have all the
details.
At the suggestion of
Eckels, the Court held up
action on the request until
the County Engineer could
supply more information.
