Aldine Library repairs continue

Like that movie, ‘Whose Life Is It Anyway?’ The courts shouldn't have as much say as they do.” Clare Anderson * r. n rlor'tctrttv Га Aldine Library repairs continue The Aldine Library, which was damaged by Hurricane Alicia on Aug. 18, is now well on the way to being repaired. The roof has been replaced and work has begun on the interior of the building. The original roof, which was copper, was torn off of a large part of the building in the early morning hours when the hurricane hit, allowing water to pour down the walls and through the ceiling of most of the building forming an ankle- deep pool throughout the building. In spite of the severe damage to- the building itself, only a very small portion of the library’s materials were damaged. All of the books were sent immediately after the storm to receive a de-humidifying freeze-dry treatment. The furniture has been refinished and reupholster¬ ed. The building is being totally refurbished inside with new sheetrock walls and ceilings, new carpet, and repainted shelving. When the building re¬ opens, hopefully in April, it will look like new with brown carpet, white shelv¬ ing and upholstery in bright primary colors. According to librarian Kathy Ziegler, the staff hopes to have a bright and cheerful place for both chil¬ dren and adults to gather ' for programs, information, and entertainment needs. ' The Aldine Library is j located at 11331 Airline 1 Drive, next to Stovall Jun¬ ior High School.
