HARRIS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY HOUSTON. TEXAS Ruth Underwood Pooley LIBRARIAN of their encampment, and a total of approximately 700 books were read by the boys attending Camp Sterling, and Wilder¬ ness, and by the girls attending Camp Allen* The directors of these oais^s report that the use of books and interest in reading more than justify the service extended, and make li¬ brary facili ties a necessity for their camps* The general administration of the Harris County Public Library has been supplemented by direct contact with comrnun- itiss in their various activities* Book exhibits have been held at teachers* institutes, with emphasis on books of spe¬ cial interest to teachers and schools. Parent Teacher meet¬ ings, club and school programs have be n attended, and con¬ tributed to when possible, by the County Librarian and mem¬ bers of the library staff* Personalised service and new, con¬ tacts are vital factors in extension service* For this rea¬ son effort has b mu made to actively Identify the library ser¬ vice with community life in its may phases* The library has cooperated with individuals, organisations, and institutions doing work of rural nature* Active relationships have been maintained with the Amer
