HARRIS COTRfTY PUBLIC LIBRARY Lucy T* Fuller, Librarian This library was opened in Jun$,1921* It is operated for the purpose of furnishing reading to the general public and for sup¬ plementing the work of the County Schools, and is located in teh Court House on the fifth floor. It is open to the people of the county as a reading room, from 8 A.M.to 5 P.M. daily, except Sunday. Sixty-seven library stations are maintained in the county, nine of which were opened during 1935. Library service was dis¬ continued at two stations during the past year. Of the total number of library stations, two are for colored communities. The total circul tion for the year 1925 was 140, 340. This was an increase of 17,655 over 1924. Of the total circulation 62f$ was juvenile, and 29/ j non-fiction. The book collection at the close of the past year numbered 19,813 volumes, of which 8,748 were adult and 11,065 juvenile; 12,133 fiction and 7,680 non-fiction. Luring 1925 there were added to thf collection 4,452 volumes. Of jfchis number 230 were donated books. This represents an Increase of 2,368 volumes over the preceding year. It was necessary to discard 2,084 books, account of loss in circulation, wear and tear, etc. In addition to the general administration of the County Library, the librarian and assistants visit each station at various times during the year when the book collection is changed as much as pos¬ sible. On these visits story hours are held, home visits made, schools visited, and special community programs attended. The library also has special exhibits in the county for the purpose of introducing a better type of reading to its patrons.
